Celebrating Diwali - A Corporate Experience

Diwali, the festival of lights, is a not only celebration of the triumph of good over evil, but is also a celebration of positive synergy, camaraderie, optimism and goodwill within the teams and across the organization. Set right at the onset of the mild and pleasant winters in the South, Diwali welcomes in the festive season which continues till the end of the year. At Four Soft we understand the significance of Diwali, as a time to celebrate our success and achievements, put all negative performance (if any) behind us and look with optimism to the year ahead. Right since the initial days, we understood that to be a successful organization we have to use occasions like Diwali to announce all important things to the staff so that they understand and continue their engagement with the organization having the right amount of faith, hope and belief in the future.

The Diwali celebration is typically done a day before Diwali at Four Soft, a tradition which has been continuing right from the start. Broadly it includes the following:
1) Ethnic wear competition - all employees are requested to come in their best ethnic wear to show the spirit of Diwali. The best 3 best dressed people, judged by a panel of Sr. Managers, in both male and female categories are awarded individual prizes. There is also a photo-session to capture their “moment of glory,” which is published in our internal Global magazine “The Foursoftian.”
2) Rangoli and Cabin Decorations – all teams within the organization actively participate in the flower Rangoli (individual) and cabin decorations (team), with the top 3 individual/teams winning the trophy and gift hampers.
3) Cultural and fun events – which includes dance, games, and various other fun events which are as creative and exclusive as the people we have.
4) Diwali gifts – typically sweet/dry-fruit boxes is distributed to all staff by their respective reporting Managers with a specific message to them and their families. We do encourage all Managers to know at least by name all the nuclear family members of each of their subordinate.
5) Address by the CXO’s to all staff members – the CEO, CFO and CTO address all staff and give their insights on the last 2 quarters performance and financial results of the company. They then go on to share their plans for the rest of the year and the key highlights/events all staff can look forward to.
6) Early wind up – the best way to celebrate any festival is to have an early start. We have recognized this right from the start and ensure that our staff are permitted to leave early so that they can go with their families and do their last minute Diwali shopping.

Diwali acts as the unofficial kick-off for our various indoor and outdoor extracurricular activities, which are conducted by our Cultural & Sports committee called 4S Kalavedika. Right after Diwali, all employees actively participate in various forms of competitive sports (cricket, football, badminton etc.), games (chess, carom, darts etc.) and cultural events all the way till the end of the year, where our company has its main cultural event of the year called the “Four Soft Family Day.”

Lost in Translation!

Recently a website has been launched http://ruwiray.in , which aims at converting exciting stories in vernacular languages (primarily telugu) into english. There are a lot of ethnic Indians, residents and non-residents alike, who frequently visit the web to read about their country/state and its culture in English. However, there is a lack of quality writing on the internet to benefit the netizens. Though there are lot of English language newspapers based in the state of Andhra Pradesh, but their material is no match to the analysis and depth of Telugu language articles and short stories. This means there is a big gap between the readership demand and literature supply, which this website seeks to bridge. Even people who are non-Andhraites can easily follow these stories in english and get a good insite on the Telugu language and culture. This website will be sort of an online literary journal with translated content providing insightful analysis about society, politics, and movies...
